Shaping sustainable urban development: Water Sensitive City and Building decarbonisation in Focus

Roughly half a year into their partnership period the two newest Thematic Partnerships on Water Sensitive City and Building Decarbonisation partnerships are advancing their work.

Two new videos have been launched to share insights on the thematic focus and progress of these two partnerships.

Both partnerships were initiated in winter 2024 and are currently working on their Orientation Papers, which will be finalised in summer 2025. These papers will define the specific topics and challenges to address, and guide the partnerships toward the development of their Action Plans.

Get to know the partnerships and the important topics they are addressing in the videos below.

Learn about the Water Sensitive City Partnership

The partnership places water at the heart of sustainable urban development. It brings together a big variety of stakeholders working on the tackling issues like drought, flooding, and the growing need for climate resilience. Through collaboration and shared learning, the partnership supports local adaptation to the impacts of climate change.

Learn about the Building Decarbonisation Partnership

The partnership focuses on helping cities transition to fossil-free heating and energy-efficient buildings. With a strong focus on cross-border collaboration and social inclusion, this partnership aims to support cities in reducing emissions from the built environment -  That means switching to fossil-free heating, improving energy efficiency, and making sure everyone is included in the transition.

These videos give a great overview of what the partnerships are focusing on now and what they hope to achieve next. However, if you are curious to learn more, visit the partnership specific pages:
