Urban Agenda for the EU

Mark your calendar: join us on 17-18 November in Rotterdam and Amsterdam to celebrate 10 years of the Urban Agenda for the EU

In 2026, the Urban Agenda for the EU celebrates 10 years since its launch under the Pact of Amsterdam, a milestone that marks a decade of closer cooperation between cities, Member States and EU institutions. As part of this anniversary year, a two-day event entitled “Cities at the Core: 10 Years of the Urban Agenda for the EU and the Way Ahead” will take place, highlighting the achievements of the past decade and exploring the future of EU urban policy.
The celebration is scheduled for 17 November 2026 in Rotterdam and 18 November 2026 in Amsterdam, with the valued support of the host cities.

Celebrating achievements, shaping the future

Over the past decade, the UAEU has pioneered a new way of working in Europe: a multi-level and multi-stakeholder approach that places urban authorities at the heart of EU policymaking. Through 21 thematic partnerships, cities and partners have worked together to improve regulation, make funding more accessible and coordinated, and strengthen the urban knowledge base across Europe. This anniversary event will celebrate these achievements and give well-deserved recognition to the partnerships whose commitment and collaboration have shaped the success of the Urban Agenda for the EU.

The event will also provide a platform for forward-looking discussions centred on the achievements of the UAEU. As the EU advances the evolving EU Agenda for Cities and aligns with broader European priorities, this milestone offers a timely opportunity to reflect on impact, draw lessons and further strengthen cooperation.

Cities at the core

Cities are essential to delivering Europe’s strategic objectives, from sustainability and competitiveness to social inclusion and innovation. By bringing stakeholders together in Rotterdam and Amsterdam, and with the strong engagement of both host cities, the European Urban Initiative aims not only to celebrate ten years of progress, but also to reaffirm a shared commitment: keeping cities at the core of EU policy for the decade to come.
