Engaging Citizens and Businesses for Nature Restoration

In this session, we will focus on how cities can encourage nature restoration on privately owned land, aligning with urban targets set under the EU Nature Restoration Law. From residential properties to commercial areas, the discussion will explore policies and strategies for engaging citizens and businesses in urban greening efforts.

City Insights and Practical Examples

The webinar will the following case studies:

  • Rotterdam: The Greening Without Borders programme, which encourages private landowners and businesses to green their properties, reducing urban heat and enhancing biodiversity.

  • Zagreb: Community-based greening initiatives that empower residents to co-create green spaces, fostering a sense of ownership and local stewardship.

  • Maria Sitzoglou (design-clips): Bringing expertise from Paris, Thessaloniki, and Budapest, Maria will showcase co-design approaches that have successfully transformed schoolyards and streets into thriving, climate-resilient public spaces.

Interactive Format

Following the presentations, the speakers will engage in an interview-style, moderated discussion by Leon Kapetas (Resilient Cities Network). This format invites active audience participation, allowing attendees to share experiences and ask questions about collaborative approaches to urban greening.
