EWRC 2025 Workshop | Bankable Public Green Infrastructure and Services: A Practical Approach
From Barriers to Opportunities
Organised jointly by ICLEI (through the NATURANCE Horizon project), NetZeroCities, DesirMED and the Urban Agenda for the EU Partnership on Greening Cities, this session will bring together practitioners and financial actors to explore how urban nature projects can become attractive investment opportunities. Speakers from the Euro-Mediterranean Centre on Climate Change, the European Investment Bank, Bankers without Boundaries, and Brussels Environment will highlight pathways that connect public investment banks, innovative financial models, and local governments to unlock funding for green infrastructure.
Learning from Practice
The workshop will highlight concrete examples where innovative financing has created both financial returns and wider environmental and social value. Participants will hear about pioneering approaches, such as the CARDIMED case from the European Investment Bank, as well as insights from the Greening Cities Partnership’s work on developing funding instruments for nature-based solutions. Together, these perspectives will provide inspiration and practical guidance for scaling collaborative financing approaches across Europe.
Interactive Exchange
A central part of the workshop will be breakout discussions, where city representatives will present their own case studies of bankable green infrastructure. Participants will be invited to share lessons from their own contexts, explore practical solutions, and co-develop ideas for overcoming investment challenges. Key messages from these exchanges will be brought back into plenary for collective reflection and next steps.
Why Join?
This session is designed to provide practical insights, real-world examples, and peer-to-peer learning.
