Webinar on Public land for local food policies: from European case studies to transferable models

Key objectives
This session presents the results of a structured case study selection and validation process, based on a transparent multi-criteria assessment. This approach enabled a systematic comparison of initiatives across diverse territorial and institutional contexts, and supported the identification of the most relevant and robust cases.
Rather than presenting isolated examples of good practice, the selected case studies are framed as a learning portfolio. Together, they illustrate how public authorities across Europe are using different instruments to mobilise, manage, or condition public land in support of fairer, more sustainable, and more resilient local food systems.
The webinar will move from documentation to discussion. Participants will be invited to reflect on what public authorities actually control in each model, how access to land is organised, and what governance and administrative conditions are required for implementation. The discussion will also explore which elements are transferable to other cities and regions, and under what conditions.
Finally, the session will help identify key success factors, barriers, and emerging policy messages, feeding into the second webinar and the final Action 5 policy brief.

Purpose, analytical framework, methodology, and selection criteria used for the analytical work, as well as the final set of nine case study fiches. A concise overview of each case will be provided, highlighting key aspects of transferability and innovation - Focus on “Terras da Costa e Mar” Agrarian Park case study
Successful and less successful aspects of the model/intervention, as well as key challenges and lessons learned - Q&A session
- Interactive follow-up
Participants will first vote on the models they consider most transferable, then rank the most important enabling conditions for transferability, and finally contribute one key barrier or support need from their own context. This exercise will help link the session to the next webinar on success factors, challenges, and barriers, and will provide input for the final policy brief as a key output of the Action
